Bumpsies...i thought i would 'bump' this thread up...as the re-issue is out today...and wanted people's opinions on the remixed 'heretic', seeing as it's supposedly very good...if you want a preview of the new mixes, then the band have put one new track on their myspace...
...i will hopefully be getting the album on tuesday...so i shall post my thoughts on that day...oooooohhh i bet you're excited now, aren't ya (!) ?
hmmm....i need sleep......

My local indie shop didn't have it either, but I placed an order with them and hopefully should have it by Friday. I'll post along with Wish on my initial thoughts. Can't wait to hear the remix of The Heretic.

...my sincerest apologies...i never mean to disappoint(!)...due to the lack of options in purchasing the cd over here...ive had to order the cd from the band's website...so i will post my comments in the next 1-6 weeks depending on whether my package gets lost or not...i hate international shipping!!! ...happier news, is that i bought both the cd and the dvd in the 'special' offer...so i get them for $15...but shipping cost $23...although it's not that bad as that only comes to £19...so at least something positive has come out of this!!! alas this does however mean that the anticipation and excitement at hearing my comments will grow wildly out of control...at least you have something to look forward to (!)... ps...just to note...im being positive about something negative...im not always pessimistic and depressed as i have been accused of being...thought i should point this out - im a 'new' me... ;D ...

I snagged the "Heretic" remix from iTunes and I must respectfully disagree with the hype. While it's an interesting departure of sorts from the original, it's nothing groundbreaking. Furthermore, I was really irritated by the way they distorted Matthew's lovely voice at times. He's not meant to sound like Stephen Hawking!
I'll be the first to admit that I generally don't like remixes, so it's quite possible that others may dig it more than me. I'm sure that I'll still listen to it from time to time when I want a break from the original version (which has been in heavy rotation since I purchased it!).
Cheers,
edge

i agree with edge. the remixes aren't all that...decent, but nothing to what the hype led me to believe. i am however happy to hear earlier TSOAF material...pretty decent, though still way out there for this listener. i guess i like melodies a little more than they do.
anyway, good remixes...not great.

Stephen Hawking is the new Jeff Buckley .... didn't you know? Actually, I thought he was the new Barry White. Apparently my sources were inaccurate!

FINALLY...after almost a month of waiting...they're here...and as for the postage system - it's crazy - my package got 'mis-sent' to MALAYSIA - how in the world can a package that clearly says England on it can get sent to Malaysia - i will never know...never know... Anyway...on to more serious issues...the new remixes...disappointing - very...i was expecting much greater things, but alas, no such luck - i cant believe how low in the mix matthew's vocals have been put in The Heretic...considering that they are the best part of the song...ahwell...no point in crying over bad remixes(!)... However, the actual Tiger and the Duke album is really good - very impressed - some great music - much more consistent than Lover, the Lord..., so im happy... The DVD is as i expected - seeing as i'd seen most of the songs on youtube(!) - it's a shame that matthew doesn't feature much on it - but he only sings two songs...so what can you do??? Anyway, im surprised at just how tight the band played live - considering they had only had a few rehearsals for it - they pretty much nail every song, albeit with a couple of mistakes... To conclude...yes...they were worth the wait...so im happy... ...by the way...the DVD scared the life out of my cat (not literally) - especially when matthew hits his big notes in the heretic - he was not amused...
