As a spin-off of wishstars' thread about Midsummer, I realized that the boys have had (and continue to have) other projects that they work on outside of The Autumns. What I also realized is that I certainly don't know everything they've been involved in. Below is the list of other musical projects that I'm aware of - any add'l info about them is greatly appreciated. Also, if anyone knows of others that aren't mentioned, please chime in! 1) The Sound of Animals Fighting Matthew contributes vocals to two tracks (The Heretic and My Horse Must Lose) on TSOAF's latest release, "Lover, The Lord Has Left Us...". Remixes of these tracks appear on the recent reissue of TSOAF's debut album, "The Tiger and The Duke". The Heretic is a real standout, and holds the distinction for most spins in my iTunes over the last 2 monhts. 2) The Sugarplastic Matthew contributes vocals on "Hecate", taken from the band's 2005 release, "Will". I haven't heard the song yet, but it's apparently one of the highlights on that record. 3) Midsummer Steve is the long-time drummer for this band. My knowledge of this project is limited considering I just found out about them, but they've apparently released several EP's and are prepping a new full-length release in the coming months. 4) Dustin Morgan I just recently discovered Dustin's jazz project. Don't be scared away by the Van Halen-ish method for naming the group... the music is uniquely atmospheric, reserved, and expertly constructed/performed. Does the group have any released material (CD, digital downloads, etc.)? 5) Developing Independent Artists Frankie may not contribute musically to this effort, but the bands that appear on this ongoing series of releases (featuring So. Cal. high school students) would never have had the exposure without his guidance. Am I missing any other projects? Cheers, edge p.s. Any reference to singing backup for the Chili Peppers will be summarily dismissed as untruth.

Matthew is collaborating with a few of the TSOAF guys on another project called Pyramids as mentioned in the newsletter. He's also sang with The Arrogants... I'm pretty sure... I may need to do some fact checking, but he's definitely out and about musically. I hear he sang back up for the Red Hot Chili Peppers... Dustin played on the recording Exotic Tales by the Eldad Tarmu Quartet as well as contributed his playing to a jazz arranged version of Brahms Lullaby for the Children's CD, Jazz Baby. He's also recorded and played all over with numerous bands and ensembles of many different styles of music. Elkins has toured and recorded and just wreaked havoc musically all over the place. If you haven't gone to the Music section of the Elkins Archive I highly recommend it. You can see some improv stuff that he has done.

I thought I remembered Steve just doing live drums for House of Wires, not on the albums... I could be wrong, though. The only House of Wires songs I'm familiar with are all electronic, but I sort of remember that there might have been a later album with "real" drums and non-electric instruments (like horns, etc.).
Steve also contributed (vocally, I think) to at least one release by Herb Grimaud Jr.'s ambient project The Sound Gallery.

Okey-dokey then... ...so...i thought i'd look up some of dustin's musical efforts as revealed by mimsy in her post... ...and so, for those of you who are interested - here is a link where you can get The Eldad Tarmu Quartet's 'Exotic Tales' as a free download - i assume it's pretty hard to buy now... www.eldadtarmu.com/cds.php...it's got some nice chill-out jazz on there...which im quite enjoying listening to at the moment...although i am beginning to slowly fall asleep at my keyboard - but that's more likely to do with the fact that it's the early hours of the morning here (!)... ...and i also discovered that he played bass on a song by kat parsons...but i haven't heard that...so....there you go... ...i think im beginning to border on the obsessive with my searching for autumns related things...i need to stop now methinks...!!! ...oh...i thought i would throw in a link to mr morgan's musical myspace...seeing as edge mentioned it in his post...for those who were interested... profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=188866417

I've done a little more research into this topic and here are the results, some of which flesh out the prior comments of other members. If anyone can confirm/deny these in some official capacity, it would be greatly appreciated:
1) At least one website notes that Elkins played drums on two House of Wires releases - You Are Obsolete and Monogamy.
2) The song that Matthew sang on the Charity Empressa disc is "Future King of England".
3) Dustin played bass on Kat Parsons' cover of Gershwin's "Someone to Watch Over Me" (from her CD "No Will Power").
4) Elkins supposedly played piano on "New Horse", the lead track from Sodastream's 1997 EP "Enjoy".
5) Matthew played guitar (no vocals though) on "Costa Rica", a track from The Arrogants' debut EP "Your Simple Beauty".
Cheers,
edge
