well...it's finally here...the new White Stripes album...i know they're probably not the most popular band amongst The Autumns fans...but i thought i would just point out how good it is.... ....which is REALLY good...soooooooo good.....it really is...one of the best albums of the year so far - and i've bought a suprisingly large amount of music released this year, for me at least....and this is certainly near the top!!! Jack White has proven just how much he rocks...yep...bow down people...hmmm...Meg also rocks...in fact, the White Stripes rock in general... So if you want a great album whilst waiting for the new Autumns record...buy this and enjoy...

I like it too. It isn't nearly as singalongable as Get Behind Me Satan, but it definitely rocks. And it has its moments of catchiness. (i like making up words, it's fun)
*sings* COOOOOOOOOOONQUEEEEEEESST!

well...i must disagree about the singalongability of the album...i cant stop myself singing along with icky thump...conquest (of course)...prickly thorn...rag and bone...im slowly turning into you, etc, etc...its just great...im glad that they've gone back to their roots in a way...not so much randomness - more dirty rock...there are so many great riffs on the album...
...and i hope that i will finally be able to see them live when they tour here...and that they play loadsa the new album!!!!

It isn't so much that you can't sing along with it, is that it is less catchy than previous efforts. I mean my doorbell?! catchiest tune ever.

hmmm...my doorbell began to annoy me after a while...overplayed me thinks....plus i found the denial twist much more catchy...just my opinion...i also find the new album more catchy than the previous two...perhaps because i prefer them when they are a bit heavier...it would seem that i cant get slowly turning into you out of my head...doo doo...doodoo...

Back when the Stripes first came out, I appreciated the fact that Jack and Meg put out such a raw, stripped-down sound - it wasn't like anything else at the time (even though I personally don't prefer to listen to this type of music). However, I couldn't shake the thought that it was somewhat of a gimmick and wouldn't remain engaging over the course of multiple albums.
I never bought the whole "Jack White is a guitar god" theory and I've pretty much ignored his output save the occasional tune on the radio, etc. His apologists are many and will certainly come to his defense if I slag him, but I just don't "get" his music for whatever reason. I'm sure that fans will continue to latch on to new material, but I wonder how many new converts he's acquiring with each new record. From my outsider's point of view, it's more of the same songs, 7+ years into his career.

i saw some stuff in your yard are you going to give it to us?
it's probably just me, but jack is sounding more and more like robert plant with every album; especially this one. only fair to say they should appear in more jarmusch films. otherwise the screeching harmonic interludes are nice. and rag&bone. 'little cream soda' is the first track since the air near my fingers where i'm content with meg's drumming.

hmmmm....my massive praise for the white stripes is facing criticism...how dare thee (!!!!!) ...i think it's only fair for me to present the other side of the argument...so i shall...to suggest that the white stripes have not changed there sound is quite intriguing...if you listened to the first album next to 'get behind me satan', you would see just how the band have evolved - you could even be decieved into thinking they were by two different bands...jack white has ideas for songs that other bands could never think of - and would be way too scared to actually use...although im not saying that these ideas are new or original...im just stating the fact that jack is much more experimental than he is given credit for... ...furthermore...jack white is not a 'guitar god'...in my opinion, there is no guitarist, past or present, whom that term applies to...to suggest a guitarist is at the highest and most unchallengeable level is wrong...every guitarist has the ability to improve...however, guitarists can be influential, and jack white is (possibly) the most influential guitarist of the past ten years...he has quite a unique style of playing in comparison to many others... ...meg's drumming - what a controversial (and dull - in my opinion at least!!) topic - so many critics highlight this as the white stripes' downfall, but that is not so - meg is a minimalist drummer - she does not need fancy fills and timings, as they do not fit the band's music - and personally, i feel that her drumming on the new album is the best she has done...and jack has said this to...so i cant be that wrong can i??...who knows??? anywho...i think i've ranted enough - im not claiming that my opinions are right...but i think they're pretty accurate...ahwell...

i never wished to sound like i hate meg's drumming; so maybe 'content' wasn't the right word. what i meant was it's that her best drum track since 'the air...'. if her style suits the stripes, that's fine. but i guess perfect technique has to adapt itself to music, not subvert it. at least in a band (i'm not saying hers does, just calling ringo starr to mind).
and it's not like they started producing minimal techno (detroit, right) after 'elephant' or anything. it's the same blues-rock with distorted power chords. i always thought 'satan' is a marketing trick.
anyway you're too ardent for me, i'm beat and surrender. i love/hate/disregard white stripes in all their minimalist glory.

yay...i win...but i must apologise - i was perhaps a bit harsh over the whole drumming issue...its just im so fed up of people who highlight that one factor about the band...and i just dont see it as a very valid argument... ...and yes...the band did not produce 'minimal techno'...but 'satan' was strongly criticised by the media as being unfinished, etc...and by releasing it, they sort of stuck two fingers up to the mass market...to sieve out the people who 'got' the band from the people who just found a few songs catchy... ...so i admit that my argument was flawed by suggesting that they were very experimental...but how many current bands would make a song like 'Icky Thump' and release it as that album's first single...not many i don't think...not in this day and age when commerciality rules the universe... ...ahwell...i still reiterate the fact that i love the new album...brilliant
