Not sure if Placebo is too glam for some of you Autumns folks, but I'm quite the fan. Starting listening to them a few years back, and was able to see them live in Dallas, TX near the end of 2004. Quite good, I thought.
The new album, Meds, is pretty amazing...much more accomplished than most all of their previous work combined. I know a lot of bands say this whenever a new album of theirs is arriving, but in this case I feel it is true. Though I enjoyed, and still do, Sleeping With Ghosts, it was a small step back from Black Market Music, which was a step forward from the two albums prior. My opinion, so take it as you will...
If you pre-order Meds from Amazon.com, you'll be able to stream the whole CD until it is released next week. The special edition CD/DVD combo includes a live video of Placebo performing with the Cure. The song..."If Only Tonight We Could Sleep."

Hey nocturnes,
Just browsing through the forum this afternoon and couldn't help but reply to your post. I'm a longtime fan of Placebo after seeing them open for Bowie's 50th birthday party at Madison Square Garden in 1997. (I ended up catching them live again on the Without You I'm Nothing tour a few years later.)
I think that Meds is a more developed sound for them, incorporating the more electronic/industrial elements that they've toyed with in the past. WYIN is still my personal favorite, though.
I just burned a sampler disc for a co-worker of mine, which featured multiple tracks from The Autumns and Placebo, so it's not too much of a stretch to expect that the fanbases of these two bands intertwine!
Cheers,
J.
