So, pretty self-explanatory title ain't it??? What is your fave line from an autumns' song...or, alternatively, which are your fave lyrics from a whole song??? I think that mine are between: Relinquished - 'I've tasted her words, bitter on the tongue, I've twisted her words, in poetry unsung.' Witch Hazel - 'Butterfly wings, pull your strings, to the edge of edgeless shores, Pour your drinks, to the end of nothing more.' She Whispers the Winter Snow - 'Her fingers trace, gently on my face.' I also like the lyrics to 'the angel pool' and 'glass in lullabies' - i like to sing-along with them... so...ive told you mine...you tell me yours...

Witch Hazel - 'Butterfly wings, pull your strings, to the edge of edgeless shores, Pour your drinks, to the end of nothing more.' wish, you nabbed my namesake lyric before I even had the chance to claim it! I kinda like that one myself. Other faves: Glass in Lullabies - "As she smiles/ no longer a fading chance/ to quietly live life enhanced/ under cover of the oak tree branch" Siren Wine - "This one last dance is worth the dying" June in Her Frost and Fur - "The truth is never quite so near as in dreams" Cheers, edge

I thought you might be a bit peeved at me taking that lyric...but ever since i first listened to russet gold, that lyric was the one that really stood out - i love the image that it evokes...beautiful yet sombre...so, i thought i would get in there first and claim it for myself...sorry... Looking at your other choices edge, i realise just how many lines i actual forgot about when i was choosing...especially the one from 'June...' - the band do seem to come up with some pretty special lyrics...and they always seem to fit the music perfectly...they all have that dreamy element to them...

Agreed, even though it's a challenge to make out exactly what Matthew is singing sometimes! On the topic of lyrics, though, I admit that I (perhaps naively) attributed them all to Matthew up until recently, but given my discovery of the adroit writing skills of other band members, I've come to question my initial assumption. Who, exactly, is responsible for all of these great lines? Is it one person or multiple, and if different band members are working on the lyrics, is it a collaborative effort on each song, or do some members contribute entire lyrics for particular songs? The Autumns have always positioned themselves as a democracy in terms of songwriting credit (no names are ever mentioned, even for lyrics), which is probably the best way to go to avoid in-fighting down the road, but it makes it difficult to understand the individual creative input from each of the members. Anyone from the band care to comment on these questions? Cheers, edge

There are many many lyrics to go on about. But these little gems from the Self Titled release strike me.
"Lord stay my hand / before I sin again / I'm not sad / I'm just through with it..." - the end "Too much love / Too bled to bleed..." - wish stars "You'll ever wade / in the sea of your fate..." - heartsick on the open sea

If I even tried to come up with something for "Embracing Winter" I have a feeling I would be way off. so let's just say most of that song has many lyrics/phrases I enjoy a great deal.

I must quickly thank ms. mimsy and mr. edgelessshores for helping me locate the following lyrics. Without them, very little would be possible on this board.
My favorite lyrics from Embracing Winter (surprise-surprise) are from the chorus:
EMBRACE ME AND HOLD ME SPEAK IN SOFT WARMLY TONES AND HOLD ME DON’T LEAVE ME TIL THE SUN WARMS MY BONES
the whole song is written beautifully, but these have stood the test of time for me.

It's interesting to look at everyone's favorite lyrics. I think it says something about our personalities... (unfortunately it appears that I'm looking evil and cynical compared to all you romantics! )

Tears and sunlight Burn to bruise your fair skin
Mostly because my friend told me it sounded like he was saying foreskin, and now that's all I ever hear.
But really, it's gotta be from "Glass in Lullabies" when he says "older, yes, knowing nothing still." Seems pretty right.

"Waiting for that morning sun to wake another mistake" - Oh My Heart
I think that the intimacy in which this particular lyric is delivered makes it more powerful.

Mmmm...i love the whole of Night Music - Matthew's voice is amazing in this song, and just fits the lyrics perfectly - in particular, the chorus...
...and Glass Jaw always brings a smile to my face: 'Crack in the jaw, clicks like brass, hee-haw, it's all'... and the last verse - 'Black little laws, so much print, too small, that's all' - is very good...

I like "The Midnight Knock" actually i find it difficult to choose my favorite song because all of the songs are perfect, all of the songs can touch your heart, all the songs will make you realize something. I wish songs these days are more like that. And I wish the teenagers now would some day learn to love and appreciate these types of songs. Can anyone give me a list of bands or singers who also have heart warming songs? BentleyServiced Apartments
