I guess I have a thing for The Autumns and the last three tracks of their albums? I'm always so interested in what people's favorites are. It's fun to read about quirks such as liking the last 3 tunes on the albums... I guess my quirk is that I like Autumns tunes that create strong visuals. I know, that isn't very consistent, but there are certain songs that create precise feelings and images everytime I hear them. I almost wonder if there are specific musical equations that bring out these feelings... hmmm.

covers album question: where can you find a recording of the original david lynch tune - just you and i (?) i've searched for a while but failed. the autumns' covers are often so different from the originals so i wanted to hear the original ~

I don't know if there is a recording of the song "Just You and I" other than in the actual episode of Twin Peaks. It didn't appear on either of the Twin Peaks soundtracks.
Although, I'm sure with some web research you can probably find an audio file of it from someone who recorded it from the episode...

I don't know if I can choose a favorite just yet because I hadn't had the chance to listen to some of thier older stuff till recently, but I probably have listened to In the Russet Gold of This Vain Hour the most as of late.

Big fan of the self titled album. It has the honor of being my most played album in my humble 30 gig iTunes library.
Favorite track is "Wish Stars". The way that that track starts at the "end" and builds to a cacophony of noise makes me want to create a short film around it.
Don't forget Minneapolis when you guys plan your next tour!

"Oriel" will always hold a special place in my heart. The first time I saw them, I'd never heard of the Autumns. As soon as they took the stage, I was riveted. "Oriel," in particular, took my breath away. They were instantly my favorite band. That was '99 or 2000 and they've never been replaced.

I go back a long time with The Autumns (I first heard "Sunblush" on a CMJ compilation CD in '97/'98 and saw them live for the first time in Philadelphia in 1999), but that only makes selecting favorites that much more difficult. I would have to say that "Boy with the Aluminum Stilts" is hard to beat, and has helped to win over some of my friends who hadn't heard of the band. It serves as a good snapshot of what they do, but as we all know, there's so much more to the band that any one song!
In terms of albums, The Angel Pool has a lot of personal meaning to me - it came at the perfect time in my life and it still captivates me. That said, this is not to imply that the band hit their peak early on and have lost ground ever since. Choosing my favorite Autumns album is like asking me which one of my children is my favorite - I simply cannot (and will not) choose!
Cheers,
J.

just realised that i haven't posted my faves...so thought i would... 'Le Carillon' will always be right at the top of my list - when i listen to it, it reminds me of so much - some good and some not so good - but the songs are some of my favorites... In terms of just enjoying songs... 'June in her frost and fur', 'Lotus Leaves' and 'Garlands' are probably the ones that make me smile and wanna dance... I gotta say that i just love the Angel Pool though, which just has so many good songs...and inflicts so many different emotions on me...especially the title track and 'glass in lullabies'... ...but of course, the self-titled was the first Autumns album i ever heard, and so it will always have a special place in my heart, and i love 'russet gold' - it is probably the strongest and catchiest album over all... so, i sort of highlighted my faves...whilst also choosing all of them at the same time...i never realised the Autumns' had had such an impact on me!!!

cattleya holds a special place for me; the reason involves a girl, thats all i have to say. Romance has a tendency to shape our likes and dislikes. It's a good song, and definitely for that type of situation.

My favorite song would have to be "The End" It was a short song but still, such a short song but it warms and touches my heart. The songs of Autumns is an example of type of songs that I wish other people would learn to appreciate and love. Because now a days great music has been misdefined. My favorite line from "The End" is Lord, stay my hand, before I sin again. I hope one day people would learn to understand and learn to love songs like this. BentleyServiced Apartments
